During the early part of the tournament, the blinds are still not tempting and you can expect to get more flops. Avoid calling or raising any hand just because your bet does not represent a significant amount of your chips, but the pots could accumulate. During the middle portion of the tournament, the blinds start to play a role in your chip count. Not to mention the ante and the switch from the late tournaments up to the bubble. At this stage, factors like size of your stack and what is happening on the table will come into play. If you have a depleted stack, then your aim is to make it through to the next round so you need to be selective and wise on your approach to the game. While the blinds may be tempting at this part of the tournament, you should be cautious not to consume your entire stack. The bubble stage of the tournament is one of your best chances to steal some blinds and pots from people who are attempting to do likewise. You should not be contented with just cashing in but instead try to work yourself up to the top five positions because that is where the money will pour in. Your priority is to go after the people attempting to steal the money as well. A good strategy during the bubble stage is to re-raise the bet of someone who is stealing blinds. During the in the money stage of the tournament, you usually start to realize that you are short in stack already and are willing to take risks. You need to double up and be more aggressive in stealing the blinds. Just like in the previous stage, you will find yourself short on stack during the final table bubble. By this time, you are looking forward to play in the final table. Here, the table becomes tight so play loose. Be more aggressive and go after the uncontested pots. In the final table, you should maintain your aggressiveness and aim for the win. Remember that in the final table, you are up against an opponent who is after the ultimate prize just like you. |
